“All In Due Time” | Eighty Unplugged Episode Two

episode Two of the Eighty Unplugged Podcast

In this episode, I am once again joined by my husband, JJ. The song at the center of this podcast is my original song, “All In Due Time,” a song that is sending out a message of support and encouragement to “be patient” and “be kind.”

“All in Due Time” Background & Context

The topics of episode two surround my song “All In Due Time”. I wrote this song dedicated to my younger sister. She and I have an age difference of nearly a decade, which made my role in our relationship that of a caretaker.

You’re young and it’s hard…

“I know you’re young and it's hard, Cause it's just the start

You don’t know who you are, And you don’t know your part

You don’t know why you try, when your good motives die

But there's a world to find, so don’t turn a blind eye”

This song was written around the time I moved to college. This was the first time I was away from my family. I had to find an identity that didn’t involve being the older sister. As I struggled with this, I saw my sister in her own struggle. She was going through dreadful pre-teen years; a time in life you could not pay me to repeat. I saw her trying and failing. I’d witness her trying to push boundaries she didn’t understand, attempting to learn who she is and what that means. Going through the all too familiar struggle of self doubt, at times feeling inept and hopeless. I remember similar feelings when I was that age and could empathise because I felt like I was going through a similar circumstance.

You’re not too old..

“Honey you're not alone, you ought to listen to what they told ya

Honey you’re not too old, to let your family hold ya”

Trying to find identity or direction, whether in college or middle school, can make it difficult to maintain perspective on your situation. It’s easy to forget that there are people around you, particularly family, who want to support you. Depending on your age, you may not be open to others' help, and their advice can easily fall on deaf ears. I used to think, “I’m too old” because of my age and that I should be able to overcome certain problems or struggles on my own. With age comes perspective, and I’ve come to realize that everyone is going through problems and may need support. I would never want someone to neglect asking for my help because of their age, especially my sisters and brothers..

Good things come to good people…

“Be patient, Child be kind

Cause good things come in due time

Be patient, Child be kind

Because good things come to good people  all in due time”

A piece of advice I would offer anyone going through an internal conflict is to be patient. Answers and peace should have no urgency. The problems you're facing can seem much larger than they really are, but you mustn’t let yourself become jaded or callous. I wrote this song to tell my sister to be patient and kind and to live at life’s pace. Staying positive and graceful in the face of misfortune can help you come out on the other side, because good things come to good people, “All In Due Time.”

Song Title: All in due time

Songwriter: Eighty

Is it really so bad

That you don’t feel like trying

Have you gotten so sad

You spend all your time crying

Honey you're not alone

You ought to listen to what they told ya

Honey you’re not to old

To let your family hold ya

Be patient, Child be kind

Cause good things come

In due time

Be patient, Child be kind

Cause good things come

In due time

Because good things come to good people

All in due time

I know you’re young and it's hard

Cause it's just the start

You don’t know who you are

And you don’t know your part

You don’t know why you try

When your good motives die

But there's a world to find

So don’t turn a blind eye

Honey you're not alone

You ought to listen to what they told ya

Honey you’re not to old

To let your family hold ya

Be patient, Child be kind

Cause good things come

In due time

Be patient, Child be kind

Cause good things come

In due time

Because good things come to the patients ones

All in due time

Honey your not to old, yeah, you're not alone

Let your family in, Let your family in

Honey your not to old, yeah you're not alone

Let your family in

Cause they know where you’ve been

And they know how you live

Let your family In

Be patient, Child be kind

Cause good things come

In due time

Be patient, Child be kind

Cause good things come

In due time

Because good things come to good people

All in due time
